Check this out!!!
We got these incredible looking clams from my favorite fish market Andy's Island Seafood. Click here to read my post about them! The fish is always excellent and this was no exception. We originally went in to get some fish for T. and I for dinner. The girls were having some friends in to sleep over and we would be ordering pizza for them but we knew that wasn't what we here eating. For our dinner we got 2 Hogfish. But my youngest daughter wanted some clams in the worst way. We left with Hogfish and clams!!!
I didn't get any good pictures of our Hogfish meal as I had a houseful of screaming little girls watching Disney's Camp Rock...It was true chaos!!!
Remember the teeth on the Mangrove Snapper? These are even worse!!!
Now check out the way it's jaw hinges!!! That is one scary fish!!!

Those clams look mouthwatering! :P
Very well presented blog, by the way. I shall take heed! lol
Beautiful clams!
The clams caught my eye too!
Judy, I am so in to clams right now! Those look amazing. Lately, instead of steaming, I have been washing them and throwing them right on the grill. About a min and a half and they pop right open. No mess or smell in the kitchen, no water to boil. Why no one told me about this before, I'll never know! BTW, my 3 year old son just said - 'eew, that is a scary fish'!
I'm jealous--that's a great haul!
Judy, despite living in Canada I feel for ya. I go on holidays to Greece and it can it at times (the heat) be unbearable.
As for the clams and fish...you know I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff...it's fish porn to me.
Also, now I know what really happened to your toe...you stuck your foot in that mangrove snapper's mouth! lol
Camp Rock AND clams! I am salivating!
Oh Judy...steamed clams are one of my most favorite things on this planet!! My husband has been known to travel great distances to find his gal some yummy clams! Mmmmm....nice pictures, too! :-)
That looks great - I am ready for a clambake as we speak!!
Cheers
Cathy

great blog! i live in 90+ heat every day too, but i don't get fresh seafood like the those clams - YUM!
Those clams look out of this world. I am a total clam freak! And hogfish! That is our favorite fish. We grab it whenever we can get it!
What is hogfish and what does it taste like? I'm very curious.
The clams look lovely.
Thanks Lawrence Newman!
Thanks Ann!
Thanks Gay!
Hi LMcC-What a great idea. I never thought of throwing them on the grill. We use a huge steamer outside hooked up to propane but that idea is great!!!
Oh Mike-you are so close yet so far away! You need to drive to the left or the right to get to the shore! Ocala is just right in the middle!
Hey Peter-Yah...I feel for you when you are on vacation in Greece???!!! I did think of you when I was posting these though! Isn't that fishes mouth huge!!!
Hi Brittany-Too funny!
Hi Danni-You have a great hubby to do that for you!!! And put up with roosters!
Have fun Cathy!
Hi Kelly-We are pretty lucky!
Hey SGCC-Isn't it nice having access to such fresh food?
Hi Eating Club-Hog fish is in the snapper family. It's texture is similar but the meat is sweeter.
My friends and I have started each cooking a meal everyday. It is cultivating an amazing dynamic of friends and we just recently had all of our gardens come in, so we are using fresh ingredients. Thanks for the inspiration and recipes! Keep up the good work!

oh nummers! I'm so getting some clams. In Portland, OR we can get some nice ones, but we don't get that heat as often! I like just pouring in a bottle of wine and chunking up some garlic to steam my clams - thanks for the reminder. it's been years. as far as smell - I'll just use the burner on the side of the propane BBQ - but I love the comment idea of bbq-ing the clams themselves.
There's an actual rock'in'roll camp for girls in Portland (and NYC and...a few others). I highly recommend if your girls are interested. I know a board member and have done volunteer work for them - they're a great organization.
I look forward to reading more from you!
Nutritious and delicious clams i love. I remember Grand Ma telling my father to prepare and cook clams soup for my mother days after my younger brother was born.
It's good for mothers who breastfed little babies.
Oh not only good for mothers but fathers as well. After a tiresome work or exercise, clams soup strengthens weakened muscles and joints. Ideal for lunch with grilled tuna belly and spicy fish curry.
I agree..it's mouth watering!
Great blog, clams don't do it for me though. Where do you live?
That is one mean looking fish ya got there Judy! I don't know where you come up with these guys! LOL!
Those clams look absolutely heavenly!
Hogfish is not in the snapper family it is in the wrasse family. The flavor well who could describe this superior flavor, these fish eat crustaceans thats why their meat is so sweet. I can't think of a fish thats tastes better.
