My First Giveaway!

I've had this blog for years now and have never done a giveaway.  Yep, I've had plenty of opportunities but either the product wasn't a match for my blog or I just didn't like the product.  Finally I found one that I like and feel I can stand behind...

The people at Comet sent me an amazing Cleaning Caddy filled with everything you need to clean and shine your stainless steel.   Your fridge, your stove, sinks but my favorite use for this was my BBQ GRILL!!!

Before:  The Florida climate is kind of tough on metal inside and out...my poor dirty and rusty grill

After:  All clean and shiny!!!

The nice folks at Comet have a gift caddy waiting for one lucky winner from my blog!!  In it you'll get everything included above and also some coupons for the winner to share with their friends.

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me what you plan to clean using the Comet Stainless Steel Cleansers. Don't forget to leave a way for me to contact you, in case you're the lucky winner!

US residents only, please!

The giveaway ends on Sunday 7/1/12 at 12:00 Noon EST. At that time I will randomly pick a winner and will announce it here!

**DISCLAIMER** Comet provided me with a gift pack of the products described, for me to try. As always, any thoughts and opinions given on "No Fear Entertaining" are my own.

Royal Foodie Joust Winners: Orange, Black and Sugar

Jenn, The Leftover Queen, is busy taking care of Royal duties in San Francisco this weekend and has asked me to step up and help her out with the Royal Foodie Joust winner post.  As always I am so happy to help out a friend!

I love the fall, it is one of  my favorite season. Unfortunately living here we really don’t have too much of a fall to speak of.  But I still love the fall ingredients and these ones were awesome. So when Kat, from A Good Appetite, winner of last month’s Joust, sent me her choice of ingredients for this month I was thrilled!

Orange - Pumpkin (or anything other orange flesh squash, i.e. butternut, acorn, kabocha)
Black - Stout, Porter or other dark colored Beer (if you don't want to use alcohol, you can substitute in cola)
Sugar

The Jousters loved the colors, er ingredients this month. We had 20 entries this month! Ranging in everything from appetizers to dessert! Be sure to check out all the recipes and tantalizing photos here on the Foodie Blogroll forum!

We welcomed several new Jousters this month, who will hopefully become regulars, and welcomed many of our seasoned Jousters back, after a much deserved summer break! I hope this will encourage some of you to join us this month too! Things are always exciting, and changing in the Jousting fields! We have a fantastic group of ingredients this month too. I will announce them at the end of the post!

About the Joust:

The Royal Foodie Joust is an awesome and fun monthly peer voted competition that is hosted on The LeftoverQueen/FoodieBlogroll Forum! It gets better each and every month as the competition gets stiffer and more creative, as Jousters try to outdo each other! It is also one of the friendliest competitions I have ever seen. So please don’t be intimidated to come and join us this month in another round!

We don’t bite, unless of course there is real food in our faces ;)

The only rules for the competition is that each Jouster create only one dish and each entry must feature three ingredients in common.

This competition has been referred to many times as the “Iron Chef” of the Food Blogosphere. Each month’s ingredients are chosen by the previous month’s Best Overall Entry winner. The Best Overall winner of each Joust not only wins the Queen’s favor, bragging rights and a cool icon to put on their blog, but is also awarded with a super awesome Royal Foodie Joust Apron! There are also prizes for the winners of the other two categories: Best Photo and Most Unique Interpretation

So what are you waiting for? Come over and join us this month!

If you would like to participate in this month’s Joust, be sure to submit your entry by 12 NOON, Eastern Standard USA time on the First of the following Month (Dec. 1, 2009)!

If you have an idea you would like to share about how to make the Joust a better community event, please join us in discussing it here.

Although there were so many awesome entries this time around, there can only be one winner in each category, and each month making that call gets harder! Onto those winning entries now!

This month’s Best Overall winner is Inspired Taste (Joanne and Adam) with their Guiness Burger with Butternut Squash Fries

As food bloggers (and food appreciators) we all know that pictures speak a thousand words and this month’s Best photo winner goes to Nuria from Spanish Recipes with her beautiful Pumpkin Puree with Sugar and Beer Spider Web Reduction

And last but not least is the entry that won the Most Unique Interpretation which this month goes to 5starfoodie with Stout Pumpkin Sous Vide with Goat Cheese and Maple Syrup

Thank you so much to our winners, all the participants and everyone who voted! Remember, even if you don’t enter the Joust you can still vote for your favorite entry on The Foodie Blogroll Forum!

*********************************************************************************

So without further ado, Joanne and Adam of Inspired Taste have decided to use seasonal ingredients to inspire you for this month’s Joust!

Here are your ingredients:

Pear
Ginger

Let the games begin!!! :)

Cello-Rita’s

My friend Courtney over at Coco Cooks is a long time fan of the Real Housewives. While I am just getting into this year I can see how it can be totally addicting. I already wish it was on more than once during the week!!! Right now we are into the Real Housewives of New Jersey but just finished out the Real Housewives of NYC. Which one has been my favorite so far? Hard to say. You some how get attached to each one for a different reason.

Anyway on with my purpose here…Courtney decided to host a Real Housewives Cocktail Contest.

This drink is for Tamra from The Real Housewives of Orange County. Seeing as her husband has started up a tequila business (Tequila El Conde Azul) I thought this recipe would be perfect to showcase their tequila!!!

P1010417

Cello-Rita

2 parts of Tequila El Conde Azul Blanco (or your favorite tequila)
1 part Limoncello (homemade preferably, thanks Jenn!!!)
3 parts of your favorite margarita mix
squeeze of lime

Shake all ingredients and serve over ice.

This is delicious with a salt rim or not. But should be enjoyed on a hot summer day either on the beach or by the pool! Bartender optional but highly recommended!

You want to join in you say? All you need to do is to come up with your best drink reflecting your favorite character from any Real Housewives series. Deadline is June 20! Check out all the rules here.

Now get mixing!!!

As Always…

Happy Entertaining!!!

Pomegranate Lemon Bars

Pomegranate Lemon Bars - Sweet-tart and moist!

Okay, so about a week ago Jenn first announced that there was a POM Wonderful Featured Blogger Contest going on this month. If you have not heard about it, food bloggers can submit an original recipe featuring pomegranates and have a chance to win $5000 from POM Wonderful!

As an added incentive to Foodie Blogroll members, in conjunction with the lovely POM folks, they are giving away cases of POM Wonderful products for the next 2 weeks, while the contest is going on. For more details on how you can enter to win either of these contests, please check out the Foodie Blogroll/ Leftover Queen Forum!

I had every intention of entering this contest and maybe I still will, but I used up both of the pomegranates that I had bought!!! Guess I need to buy some more!!!

Pomegranate Lemon Bars (adapted from How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman)

Ingredients:

8 Tbsp (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened, plus a little more for greasing the pan
1-1/4 Cup sugar
1 Cup AP Flour, plus 2 Tbsp
2 eggs
2 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp baking soda
grated or minced zest of 1 lemon
1/2 POM pomegranate seeds removed
Confectioners sugar

Directions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan.
  • Use an electric mixer to cream the butter with 1/4 cup of the sugar. Stir in 1 cup of flour. This mixture will be quite dry; press into the greased pan and bake for 15 minutes, no longer. Remove from the oven and cool slightly.
  • Beat together the eggs, lemon juice, baking soda, remaining 1 cup of sugar, 2 Tbsp of flour, and lemon zest. Stir in pomegranate. Pour mixture over the crust and bake until firm on the edges but still a little soft in the middle, another 20 minutes. Cool, then sprinkle with confectioner's sugar. Cut into squares and serve with some additional pomegranate seeds for garnish.
  • Store covered and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
Yum!

As Always...

Happy Entertaining!!!
