I was hunting around the other day waiting to pick the girls up and I stumbled across a recipe for Black Bean Hummus. Turns out a friend of mine has also been requesting a recipe from me for hummus. I gave her my original one that is here, but this black bean one sounded really good to me and i couldn’t get it out of my head. I love black beans and who doesn’t love a nice garlicky hummus???
This came together in a matter of minutes in my food processor. I think stirring up the tahini took more time the the recipe!
Black Bean Hummus (from All Recipes)
1 clove garlic
1 (15 ounce) can black beans; drain and reserve liquid
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
10 Greek olives
- Mince garlic in the bowl of a food processor.
- Add black beans, 2 tablespoons reserved liquid, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, tahini, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper; process until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
- Add additional seasoning and liquid to taste.
- Garnish with paprika and Greek olives.
***I calculated this for WW as 2 points for a 1/4 cup serving…that’s not including the yummy pita that you HAVE to have with it!
Love love love hummus! All kinds, too. Also love the addition of the olives!
Yum, ya got some cumin in there... a nice, warm spice...perfect for black beans. Why...it's Judylicious!
That sounds so good, I am going to whip some up. Might leave out the olives though. Not keen.
Sounds delish to me. Love your take on black bean hummus!! YUM!!
That sounds really good!
I love the olives in there! Sounds like a winner Judy! I have some black beans that need using up - I think I know what to do with them! :)
Sounds fantastic, but you didn't tell us how you liked it. ;)
I love hummus! and I love beans!...could it get any better?
maybe if it had some cake, but that probably wouldn't mix very well...
we all have a garlicky hummus recipe; and anyone whom doesn't have a black bean one needs to get with the program!! :)
Mmm...this would be great for a "no cook" night. I get the hummus and the guys fend for themselves :)
Great healthy snack!
I love this idea for a healthy snack. Perfect for our summer happy hours on the beach. Saved!
jajaja! it's so funny to see this called hummus! In Latin America it is very traditional to eat grounded black or red beans, they're called frijoles molidos. Although the olives is something I've never even thought about before, and I just think it may be the best idea ever!
For the frijoles molidos we do usually use a lot of garlic and the rest of the ingredients, but in Costa Rica we also put in it a lot of Salsa Inglesa (English Sauce/Salsa?). It is acttually customary in my house to grind beans at the beggining of the month and freeze it in small portions, that way we always have it ready whenever we want to have some =D (it really is a very important part of our diet).
(I'm gonna steal this recipe for my blog as well, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's gonna love puttin olives in their frijoles molidos)
