Strawberry Walnut Bread

Strawberry Walnut Bread

Alright you guys all know by now that I am on a huge, life altering journey into the world of seasonal, local and freshly grown produce. So it would just be natural for me to compete in a challenge based around using goods that were available on a seasonal basis! Except I have almost run out of time. This is another challenge that I am getting in just under the wire!!!

This event is hosted by Ben from What's Cooking? The requirements are that you have to cook something that is in season in the area of the world that you are from. Well, as luck would have it, on Wednesday I was at our local U-Pick and they happened to be running a special on strawberries. For each quart that I bought I got a pint free! How could I refuse that...but what would I do with the extra strawberries?

When in doubt make bread!!!

I made Strawberry Walnut Bread out of my bounty! Was it ever good. I can't wait until next Wednesday to see if I have extra strawberries again!

As Always...

Happy Entertaining!!!

Farmer's Market and what I am going to make!

Turnips, onions, savoy spinach, purple cauliflower, red swiss chard, leeks, arugula, baby asian spinach, potatoes, shitake mushrooms, and from the U-Pick I got carombola fruit, tomatoes, strawberries and Italian fresh garlic!!!

I had a great time at Worden's Farm Farmer's Market. I went with a friend and that always makes it so much more enjoyable!!! It sure does seem like a ton of food but it all gets eaten by next Wednesday so I can start all over a again!

I am going to finally get my entry to the Royal Foodie Joust today. Heather from Gild the Voodoolily choose the ingredients this month as Pork, Pink Peppercorns and Citrus. Your killing me Heather...it took all month and a flukey trip to the grocery store to come up with this one. Usually I just try to make everything into a brownie but this time it was impossible!!!

As Always...

Happy Entertaining!!!

Farmer's Market Day!

cilantro, shitake mushrooms, beets, red swiss chard, onions, carrots, spinach, strawberries and dandelion greens

I am so loving Wednesday's right now. I seem to find myself looking forward to this all week long. I go to Punta Gorda to visit the Worden Farm's farmer's market that they set up at Fisherman's Village every Wednesday. Today I got a whole new lot of fresh vegetables that are grown on their certified organic farm. I was also able to get some fresh boat shrimp from a fisherman that just caught them last night!Cute little carrots!

Shitake Mushrooms

Fresh picked strawberries

Today I was able to get red swiss chard, dandelion greens, cilantro, onions, carrots, spinach, beets, shitake mushrooms, and eggplant. I went to the local U-Pick and got some fresh picked strawberries and tomatoes as well. I can't wait to use all of this! I am thinking maybe shrimp taco's with fresh pico de gallo and avocado (bought last week)?

As Always...

Happy Entertaining!!!
